About the event
Join us for an extra special Earth Day event for the "Make & Take Seed Starting Workshop" on Saturday, April 22nd at 2:00pm - 3:30pm outdoors behind the shop at Stone & Spoon. (In the case of inclimate weather, the workshop will be in The Gallery at Stone & Spoon)*
Learn to grow your own food at this Seed Starting workshop with Betsy King-McDonald of The Startin' Garden. This workshop is suitable for beginners. The Startin' Garden helps new gardeners learn permaculture methods to grow more food with less work, less water, and less waste. Learn the ins-and-outs of choosing what to grow, the basics of starting seeds, and how to keep your plants alive as they mature. Attendees will go home with a 50-cell seed-starting tray, planted full of their favorite food plants.
Participants will get to take home a 50-cell seed starting tray, planted full of seeds to create a food garden where they live. The bigger goal, however, is for participants to gain a more holistic viewpoint of food-growing as a sustainability practice and a way of building relationships. In addition to basic seed-starting "how-to," Betsy will incorporate concepts from permaculture, food forestry, regenerative and biodynamic gardening, and other "advanced" food-growing strategies that beginners don't always have access to, but will find profoundly enriching. Participants should walk away better-equipped to grow their own food, and better acquainted with the wonders of the soil and plant kingdoms!
This workshop is $40/per person. Workshop is suitable for beginners. Bring a notepad or notebook & writing utensil for note-taking if you feel so inclined! Limited seats available.
*Mobility note: Our beautiful 19th century building has no elevator, so all attendees will need to take a flight of stairs up to The Gallery.
